“ Production won’t even start until the spring of next year. If you’re waiting for delivery, it’s going to be into the summer of 2019. Order books don’t open until Oct. 2"
Usually manufacturers release the calendar year model in the previous year fall itself. So, not sure...

Sounds like it won’t come out until next summer so a 2020 model.
The BMW supposedly comes out in March - at least the 4cyl version.

But how is this possible? The internet says it’s a terrible car to drive because it isn’t a carbon copy of a ‘90s-era car with a $5000 MSRP, 500 HP, and leaves the factory with one previous owner.
Also, if you told me ten years ago that: “The personality instilled in the chassis comes down to the critically important knobs that Toyota controlled.” I would have called you crazy. But such is the world we live in now.

I t still looks to me like it’s going to be somewhat odd looking... big schnoz and funky rear sloping but bubbled roof line...

In before they emulate Ford and launch it with a 2019.5 model.

Correct me if I’m wrong, and I’ll admit that I’m not a toyota, supra or bmw fanboy. In fact, I dislike 2 of the 3.
This car can not and will not prove that toyota can still build a sports car. This car merely proves that toyota is skilled in buying a bmw and throwing some new skin on it.
I know that this is a badge engineering debate, but this seems blatantly silly to praise toyota for something that they didn’t build. In my opinion, this car is no more built my toyota than my truck is built by me cause I threw new shocks, struts
and an intake on it.

Here’s the takeaway from the FP article:
No manual option.
Steering feel is nonexistent.
Weight is lower than expected (3200ish lbs) but price is higher ($55k and up for the big motor).
Toyota is worried about covering the BMW motor with their warranty.

Feels like they aren’t really interested in developing anything like this, just willing to open their pocket book in hopes that the shiny sports car brings people into the showroom so that they can be convinced to buy a tundra or Tacoma.
